"...May we never be shaken. May we never fall."
A surprisingly epic, artistically vibrant trailer for Gabriel & The Guardians, from Angel Studios hit today. It's been since August of last year that we first heard of this story. Well, this new trailer really delivered on my hopes for what this show could be, and the hero and the sidekicks seem well thought out and engaging.
A character arc already seems to be showing up in the trailer for this kids show. That is a good idea because it follows in the tradition of good anime and manga to follow interesting character arcs (primarily) and to provide a lot of texture to the world-building location (secondarily). This is no exception.
Without good characters and giving them room to grow the location, time, and plot of the story will mean very little, especially for a show that will undoubtably hope to air for multiple seasons. This fits the bill, and additionally, if you didn't see the action-packed and trepidatious threat of evil in the foreground, this concern you feel for the heroes would not be felt as powerfully, either.
Well done, guys!
So, neither the heroes nor the villains disappoint. They are well designed and seem to already have a unique vibe to them. All of the three main characters shown (Gabriel, Nok, and Namay'ah) all appear to have a past that needs to change, and this inciting incident which brings Gabriel to the forefront to confront the Nephilim, seems to be perfect incident to bring this change about.
A February 12th, 2025 date has been given for release on the Angel app. Go to Gabrielandtheguardians.com or go to angel.com for more information and to buy merch.
I hope the action is visceral, the characters are infectious, and the story is fun and exciting! Soon I might be saying, "May we never be shaken. May we never fall."
