God's Gonna Cut You Down: Jesus Sets Tables & Overturns Tables in 'The Chosen' Season 5 Trailer

Wow. The trailer for Season 5 is here, and it is absolutely flammable!

Season 5 of The Chosen, directed by Dallas Jenkins, also called "The Last Supper," is not to be confused with the upcoming film produced by Chris Tomlin of the same name. In this trailer, not only do the themes of setting tables, and whips to overturn tables of the Pharisees, create a duality between the blessed and the cursed before the Lord, but the song, "God's Gonna Cut You Down," from Johnny Cash just brings it all together!

It hits deep.

Watch the trailer first, then revisit this incredible song, and it's meaning...

Listen to the song here.

The lyrics let us know who this is about..

"You can run on for a long time. (3x)
Sooner or later, God'll cut you down. (2x)
Go tell that long-tongued liar,
Go tell that midnight rider,
Tell the rambler, the gambler, the backbiter.
Tell 'em that God's gonna cut 'em down. (2x)
Well my goodness gracious let me tell you the news
My head's been wet with the midnight dew
I've been down on bended knee
Talkin' to the man from Galilee
He spoke to me in the voice so sweet
I thought I heard the shuffle of angel's feet
He called my name and my heart stood still
When he said, "Johnny, go do my will."
Well you may throw your rock, hide your hand
Workin' in the dark against your fellow man
But as sure as God made black and white
What's down in the dark will be brought to the light
You can run on for a long time. (3x)
Sooner or later, God'll cut you down. (2x)"

Such a beautiful song, but such terrible judgment it speaks of to those who conspire against God's people, and against God's righteousness. This song speaks not only of the call of the prophet to do God's will, but also the dark place of judgment reserved for those hypocrites and thieves, such as the Pharisees who, like vipers, have attempted to cut others off from God.

Instead, God will cut them off.

As Jesus says to the Pharisees in the above trailer,

"You serpents!
How will you escape being condemned to hell?"

Yes they are called vipers, snakes, serpents. A common symbol for the Jews of lawless, demonic trickery, and destroying others through sin.

Read Matthew 23 for more context. It is fiery, like this trailer!

And as stated about the Exodus journey (Numbers 21), the vipers bit and killed those who refused to look upon the brass serpent lifted up in the desert. If only they would look upon Christ they would be saved from this damnation, but those who refuse to trust in Him stand condemned.

This is an absolute fiery message of repentance and it also lays out the coming judgment, not just upon the Pharisees, but upon Judas, and upon all who ride the fence. For they refuse to stand up for God's righteousness. Righteousness which is held in the power of the Son of Man, God's own messianic King of Kings meant for mankind, Jesus Christ.
