Teal Tuesday? Ok we will get to that later. But as for now, the new teaser, the breakdown, and release dates!
They call it The Last Supper teaser... but I'm seeing the whipping and chastening of the Temple moneychangers as the primary attention-getting tool here! That's right, it's going to be a shocking season for us all. Earth-shattering, even.
It's so cool, because yesterday we got a trailer from Angel Studios for their upcoming Easter film, King of Kings, and now The Chosen gives us theirs. This reminder that Season 5 is coming next year during Easter!
Here it is.
Here is a breakdown of the teaser by the Against the Current Podcast. Eli from Against the Current does a great job breaking down these elements into pieces such as:
- The coin jingle sound effect
- The Last Supper framing device (which may extend through the entire season)
- Debating the Pharisees, after cleansing the Temple
- The disciples' reaction to the debate & Temple cleansing
- Reference to song "My Father's World"
- The Triumphal Entry moment
- Judas' moment of betrayal
- Jesus witnessing the Pharisees betrayal
- The ladies (mother Mary) and their own Passover meal
- Thomas and his disagreement with Rema's father
- Mary Magdalene crying & The Watcher
- Jesus "fashioning" the whip
- The Romans arresting people
- Jesus going incognito & being recognized at the wedding
- Flash-forward of the burning (or destruction) of the Temple as prophesied
So much going on! Watch the breakdown here!
We have, as shown in the video and on the 5&2 site, the dates of release of The Chosen Season 5. As stated, it will be coming to theaters as a substantial Fathom Event. Often Fathom Events will release a faith-based film for a few days only, sometimes a week or two (if it does well). But this is a four week release for the entire Season 5 in theaters, similarly to how Season 4 was released earlier this year!
It is scheduled in three parts: Part 1 (ep. 1-2), Part 2 (ep. 3-5), and Part 3 (ep. 6-8), and so, broken up into three separate films. Each film will likely be about 2.5 to 3 hours each. The 3 Parts will be released during the four weeks leading into Easter (opening Thursday, March 27th to Sunday, April 20th) 2025. As movie releases go, often they will extend the theatrical showings if it is successful. So, it may extend past Easter, April 20th, if there is enough demand for it.
5&2 makes this announcement as part of a yearly gift-giving day they call Teal Tuesday. That's today, folks! This Teal Tuesday they will be putting on an eight hour livestream with special guests & gifts for people who participate! This is no doubt, because the holiday season is such a great time for this giving spirit, and this is working us up to Black Friday coming later this week.
Here is the Teal Tuesday livestream, starting at 4pm!
So, to break it down, Teal Tuesday is today, the teaser is up above, for a SHOCKING season for us all to see this next year, and the opening day for all three films is March 27th. This means that these three films will play during the four weeks between March 27th & April 20th. It's quite substantial, this news.
Three films over Four weeks.
I have to say this is just as exciting as Angel Studio's (and Charles Dickens') King of Kings animated film, coming out during the same time next year, so this is very much a great thing to have two studios working in this way to bring us even more good content to the public!
