Is it often that an old classic rocker like Morrison continues to tour and garner immense profit (close to 20mil Euro) regardless of changes in the marketplace? Not necessarily.
Radio hits used to just rake in profits continually due to contracts with numerous radio networks that made money just by existing. But now this isn't a shoe-in. Radio isn't necessarily doing lucrative business the way they used to, and MP3 distribution platforms, likewise, haven't necessarily created easy pipelines for artists to thrive, either. Typically they have to do additional work, like soundtracks, retreads of their work, or to go on tour. This additional investment requires a latent fan-base that is still willing to shell out cash.
This does not always happen for artists. It often takes a marketing push of millions of dollars to plow the fields and make them ready for seed.
So, regardless of this Irish Mirror article, which seems to leave out the most important data here, Morrison is apparently flush with cash... somehow.

And yet, had the Irish Mirror done any research on why this might be, they would uncover (in the same sweat-breaking effort it takes to type) that Van Morrison, like Eric Clapton, were some of the FEW UK artists that spoke up against the vaccine mandates, and put on entire concerts... (sure) playing their standards, but also playing new hits such as Dangerous, What's It Gonna Take?, Damage & Recovery, Not Seeking Approval, Money from America, Sometimes It's Just Blah Blah Blah, & especially Fighting Back Is The New Normal & Can't Go On This Way. This was all from the socially conscious, freedom-inspired, and counter-culture What's It Gonna Take? album, along with the Latest Record Project Volume I, which was far from the generic album it sounds like.
These albums from the midst of the pandemic period, challenged politicians, the media, and government cronies that threatened to shut him up and harm many more people than they did, had people like Morrison not stood up.
Even in his more recent New Arrangements and Duets album, Morrison sings alongside heavies like Willie Nelson about "not believing what's in the papers and on TV," at least not "any more" they way they used to. This is just one example of many, the subtle messaging (and sometimes not so subtle) that he introduced since the 2020 pandemic about refusing to be controlled by establishment media and not "doing whatever you're told."
People can pretend that it didn't have an impact, and that the non-conformity didn't matter, but they are dead wrong, just as the people who died know it now... and they know it just as well.
And surprise... it's not just the mainstream media that minimizes Morrison, but fellow rockers who have a certain political stance to take. Here's a video on Bruce Springsteen, supposedly criticizing Morrison for his politics. The video is incredibly biased, even taking swipes at his family relationships.
The more relevant information starts at 3:36 where it mentions their political differences.
These "nonsense thoughts" take nothing from Morrison's brilliance.
Van Morrison's songs stand as a constant reminder that injustice continues to reign if we do nothing about it. Letting people do as they may, is likewise, not a solution. But you have to be willing to be used by truth, as though a vessel of righteousness in the world to those who have closed their hearts to God and to goodness.
And the Irish Mirror (like many other media suckers) is so busy writing useless and fake news, that they fail to hold that Mirror up to themselves. Such a sad fate for so many once-beautiful media outlets. The Mirror got their "Fodder for the Masses" ready, and they gonna remain as useless as their masters desire it. Van Morrison says "No," and so he has been rewarded for it.
Here's Clapton & Morrison's Stand & Deliver.
And for kicks, here's a great older doc featuring Van & Dylan composing music together, and their process.
.....
I hope you've enjoyed this reminder that truth and justice matter, even in entertainment and media. Have you enjoyed Van Morrison's work? And how well did the Mirror report on Morrison's wealth? Let us know down below (with sub) or on our social media!
